A good performance artist will make it purposefully hard for the audience to tell at what point the fictitious personality ends and the person known as the artist begins.

And that’s just how TJ likes it!

TRJ aka Tracy Renee Jones is a creative powerhouse hailing from the borough of Queens, New York and raised among the cold grey bricks of Jersey City, New Jersey after being put up for adoption as an infant.

As a former New York City child performer and musician TRJ performed with off Broadway theater houses and did print work as a model. Being seen but not heard apparently wasn’t enough for her and so she quit training and performing at the age of twelve. The power of the word “No” was her first exercise in what would become one of her greatest gifts… self determination.

Ferociously curious at an early age, opinionated and determined she began reading at the age of three with the help of her retired school teacher grandmother. As nosey then as she is now she understood at a young age that books held the key to increasing knowledge; she insisted her grandmother teach her about ‘the words’. There would never be another secret kept away from her as long as she had a dictionary or library within reach.

TRJ contributes her interest in law, politics and social science with the teachings and stories of culture, race, segregation and the Civil Rights Movement told to her by Grandma Hill. The Alabama bred Cherokee blood elder first introduced TRJ to the art of oral tradition in between high tea lunches and episodes of The Young and the Restless during daily visits prior to the child starting her formal private school education.

Who knows if it was the oral histories, the dramatic rehashing of what went down on the soap operas or the gossip she overheard at the knees of the wives that gathered around her grandmother’s kitchen table for tea that planted the seed that grew into an in-depth understanding of human observation.

TRJ fell in love with the art of storytelling and went on to attempt to write her first screen play at the age of nine after teaching herself how to type so that she may complete it quicker.

These days she expresses her boundless creativity as a writer, poet, artist and performance artist both online and in the New York/New Jersey area.

TRJ’s unique blend of life experience, insight and open mindedness allow her work on the subjects of sexuality, child abuse, politics and relationships to be bold, intriguing and often not previously considered by mainstream point of views.

Pushing the envelope is a skill, perception is a tool and TRJ is definitely a master at both. She gives victims a voice, analyzes and condemns circumstances and offers redemption in her lack of shame while exposing her own wounds so that others may heal.

She never fails to keep all eyes on her with her dramatic online presence.

She is a regular contributor for the political internet blog The Intersection of Madness and Reality. Her work has also appeared as re-posts on the Black social commentary blogs The Fresh Express and Racialicious.

She is a regular contributor and research assistant to the online cannabis news source, Hail Mary Jane, where she contributes stories regarding the social and political point of view surrounding criminal justice, citizen rights and prohibition.

TRJ has contributed to the conversation of relationships, sexuality, and multi-culturalism on Beyond Black and White among other highly noted writers.

You can read her powerful and emotion driven poetic verse on Me..Being Anonymous. It’s not out of the ordinary for her poetry to cause a rush of emotion; be it rage, redemption or sorrow.
